I was helping move in a friend this weekend into a new apartment, and while we were unpacking things into the bathroom, I noticed that she had a nice closet in the bathroom itself. Having a closet there is always so nice so you don't have to store towels/etc under the sink or in a bedroom closet. It's one of those things that people often don't think about until they realize that the apartment they just moved into doesn't have it. So I would love to create a list of those little touches that prospects should be looking for but may not think about.
Ice Maker in the fridge. We don't have them. It would be a huge disappointment to me if I moved in and discovered there was no ice maker. I probably wouldn't think about it when I opened the fridge.
Ceiling fan and dishwasher. I was shown a model apartment once that had them, rented, and found out at move in that my apartment did not have either.
Ice makers are not common in rentals here. If we had the money to re-plumb, we'd go for washer dryer hookups. That is one thing I really wish we could offer.
As a manager, I try to make sure "all my units are identical" as far as features go.
You just made me remember another one, Rose. Ceiling lights! I moved into an apartment one time and realized there were no lights in one of the rooms (can't remember which). I ended up having to get floor lamps to light the room. Never would have even thought about that!
Caddy Carts or rolling carts for residents to tote their groceries up to their apartments. This is a must have in mid or high rise buildings with elevators. The residents really appreciate that the property management company has supplied something as a convenience.
