Are you hosting Pinterest Contest? Are you using Pinterest Maps? Do you have a community Pinterest board for residents to Pin to?

Here is a great example of how a major brand hosted a Pinterest contest and got it right.

Interesting idea. I've never considered using Pinterest for anything besides finding killing time.

I use it in my model to make a connection to customers. I have been pinning to my apartment board for nearly 2 years. I pin all kinds of things that would work in my specific apartments. Patio decor that actually looks like something you could do on our patios and more.

I throw in a few easy recipes and a few ideas the guys would like, too! I have several decor items in the model that I point out to prospects and tell them I got the idea from Pinterest. If they haven't been on the site, I show them my board on my laptop. They love it!

It has been a very successful marketing tool for me.

We just started creating boards for our apartment community! So far we have four boards:
  1. 1. "Inspiration Station": inspirational quotes
  2. 2. "Apartment Decor": great tips and ideas for decorating an apartment (especially small apts)
  3. 3. "DIY: Awesome Projects": fun DIY projects mostly focused on apartment decor
  4. 4. "Cinema Style": apartments from movies and TV we love

At this point we haven't shared that we have a Pinterest account yet ... I want to get a few boards established with at least 10 pins each before sharing, so that we at least have a good foundation of things to catch viewers' interests (and to make sure it's actually something I can maintain, since I do social media for our property!). It's a fun way to engage with folks ... even with my personal account I find I get a lot of interesting engagement from complete strangers, so it's definitely a great way to engage with both residents and prospects!

I have been tinkering with Pinterest for our apartment community and have added a few pins and have plans for a few more (when I can find the time).

I have on there a board for Apartment living focusing on organizing.
A board for things to do in our general location. Annual events, popular locations, scenic things to enjoy, nearby colleges/universities, large shopping centers, our best nearby beaches and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I also highlight several great things to do in our area like kayaking in the ocean, great places for biking and scenic road trips.
These things show how great it can be to live at our location and all the great things around us to enjoy. This is especially great for all of the non-local prospects we reach that are moving to our area.
I also have one board of pics of a newly designed model unit as well.

I've noticed that having pins of nearby things has promoted a lot of "re-pinning" from my posts so I know that there is a greater awareness of our community. However, I'd love to find a way to harness our pinning to attract those who are looking to move into our area to put us in front of their eyes as a more direct way to reaching people. Similar to how hashtags work on twitter and facebook and how more people can find us easily depending on their searches. Any ideas out there?
