When looking for a community manager for a property what experience and qualities do you look for in a community manager? There are many things that people look for, but there are some common things that all look for no matter what kind of property that they have.
There was one management company exec that told me that experience was not what he was looking for. He was looking for a person that was an honest, extrovert, team player, even tempered, and able to handle pressure. They should also be fast learners!
I asked what about experience and he said they would get that. He had a program where they had a model property that had a super star manager that was paid more than any of the other managers because that manager took on the new person and trained them up. There was a program set up and there were tests along the way. It was like a school if you will and so the new person was learning as they went and there was a manager there to mentor them along. Once the manager said they were ready they were assigned a property. I asked how well was it working and I was told for four years and there has not been a problem with the training, but there was a problem with a couple of new managers not doing as they were trained. I asked were they mentored after the training and I was told yes and they were also given a number to call if there was ever a question and they would be gotten with. So, just maybe they are on to something here. What do you think?
