Has anyone received ANY leads from using Pinterest? It is growing fast and seems like it could be a viable place to get leads. If you have, how do you generate leads, since it's image-based?
We don't use Pinterest in our community, but here are some ideas I had for my pipe dream of community Pinterest boards:
local scenery (seasonal)
occupied apartment interiors to give prospects ideas for how they can utilize the space
maps to show where you are in relation to other things--nightlife, public transit stops, etc.
Community pets, posted with their owner's permission
Apartment views, if it's something to brag about
Local events, like parades, craft fairs, outdoor movies
Fun Stuff, things that aren't necessarily related to your community but just things you think people would enjoy, to show that you are human.
The obvious thing, photos of resident gatherings, would make the best pins of all, but it's been drilled into us that if we use photos of residents in our marketing, we have to represent all minority groups. I'm afraid of an unrepresented group coming to us and claiming discrimination, so unfortunately photos of residents is not something I would include.
Pinterest is a fad and if someone does not get accepted to join it after waiting 5 days can you really say the site is helping? Do not understand this pinterest thing except I see this being another squidoo.
Since many of our websites were built in flash, I had problems pinning a photo from our sites, so I tested last week using a photo from a property's Flickr page and already have one person who pinned it. It was just a test and don't see any reason to add pinterest to our social media mix. My preference is to focus on the main social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter. However, I have used links from pinterest to post on our facebook pages. There are great apartment decorating tips and other content that can be utilized for posts.
I agree with Julie - I don't see the value in maintaining a Pinterest page especially for companies don't have the basics in place (e.g. SEO). However, we had a customer ask us to add Pin It buttons to her blogs and it took us 5 minute to implement and I don't see any downside - except I do wonder how many share buttons we are going to have to support on top of FB, Twitter, Google+ and now Pinterest. At some point, a standup comedienne will have a field day with that idea.....
Our community has Pinterest. Although I have not seen it generate any direct leads, I do like the use of the site. We mostly pin apartment decorating ideas, local events, community photos, an non-apartment related things, such as recipes and crafts. I definitely see it more as way to interact with current residents and build a relationship as opposed to drive in new prospects.
It takes very little effort to maintain the Pinterest boards, I usually spend around 5-10 minutes a day on it.
