I always think that "pet friendly" could be so much more than simply allowing animals at a community. So I always take notice when I see ideas that really cater to pets or pet owners. A good approach is to look at vets and groomers to see what little things they do for their animals. I found this picture today about a condolence letter for the pet:

I know that might sound crazy to non-pet owners, but if you are creating a true pet paradise, those pets are like family members. It makes sense to treat them like actual residents, and acknowledge if they have passed.

In one of the comments , someone shared an absolutely great idea for a partnership with a local shelter:

we put a dog down 3 years ago and like many of the posters in this thread, including the OP, we got one of these condolence cards/paw prints.... Our vet took things a step further though.....There was a very formal looking certificate of good pet ownership, which entitled the bearer to a new dog, free of charge, from the local No-Kill shelter. Talking with the shelter worker while my kid was playing with some puppies, I found out that they sent those cards out to area vets 5 years before when they had a bad overcrowding at their shelter. They had expected a rush of "free dog" claims....but the vets had other things in mind....have held onto alot of the cards...and have been sending in "grieving families" for years. The shelter not only has not refused to honor them, but despite their original intent being very temporary, has reprinted them and continues to send them to local vets each year.
