It’s important to be friends with your local fire department. Tonight we invited the Schonowe Fire district to hold their drill training at the property. We led them on a tour, showing where the electrical, water, and gas shut off are; that way in the event of an emergency, they would know where to go before the sprinkler system floods the building. We also toured some apartments, so they would know where to look for hiding children or pets during a fire.We also checked the Knox box keys to ensure they were working and there would never need to be a situation where a door would need to be broken down.Of course we provided pizza and sodas for dinner as well. There’s not many people who would put $5 gas in their car to come to your house for free!Thank you to the Schonowe District and to all first responders for what you do!

Great advice, but make sure to let the residents know ahead of time! Full gear, running hoses, crawling around in a vacant apartment; it's awesome to watch and they really appreciate the different training environment!

We let our local department use our vacants to stage rescues every once and a while.
