Looking for some insight. We use Yardi and are looking at buying a student housing property. I had heard that online application process doesn't work great with yardi student housing and housing end up with paper applications. Does anyone have any insight or experience with this? TIA
Stacy Shaw in yardi there is a way to have the same apartment number in twice, I’ve worked on properties with phase 1 and phase 2 with the same apartment numbers. Defiantly need to get with yardi about that so you are able to generate more than one lease for the same apartment number and just have it labeled 2102-1 or 2102-2 for example. Could also have a roommate addendum where you could add a note like “Stephanie will pay $1200 and Tom will pay $1200”. Have the lease uploaded to the attachments. I worked with a lot of roommates and roommate releases, even transfers due to roommate problems over the years since my property was close to a college. They always wanted me to modify the lease to say one person was going to be responsible to pay “this much” etc. but it wasn’t something we offered. I feel like if that was an option so many more people would be open to having roommates knowing they won’t have any affected in their record or be forced out if the other person fails to pays. Just my opinion but again I’d ask yardi on how exactly to set that up but it’s possible for sure.
I used to work for Collier companies (largest privately owned student housing) and we had Yardi for years. It worked fine, I don’t remember all of the logistics of it because we did switch to Entrata my last few years there. We all loved yardi throughout the company and went through some growing pains when making the Entrata switch. Personal opinion though: Entrata ending up being a MUCH better platform. More customizable with all systems integrated.
Side note… just remembered we did have to send applications and leases through a different system and then enter into Yardi. I can’t remember if there was an easy way to import them or if it all had to be manually entered.
I used Entreat with a Student Housing site, and loved it! They are always updating features for better user experience, and the student functions worked great. Before I had left, they pushed an update that greatly improved the efficiency of the team when we had to do bulk unit assignments. The platform itself is very easy to navigate in my opinion, and has a more modern look & feel than something like OneSite. Not too experienced with Yardi, but definitely loved Entrata!
Chase Banta not sure I understand the question. I am not familiar with the student housing module and the per bed set up. Was hoping to call on any student housing Yardi users in the group.
Stacy Shaw that answers my question. I didn't understand why they would be treated differently than regular multifamily (i.e. what would create the problem) but it sounds like there are different modules.
