The road to a successful recruiter placement

The road to a successful recruiter placement

Working with a recruiter to fill your open positions can save you valuable time.  Your position if left open causes hardship for residents, employees and you as the Manager.  Here are some tips to creating a positive experience in working with a recruiter.

Communicate

a.       When engaging a recruiter mention all the duties, needs, and compensation expectations.

b.      Know who will be performing the interview process and how many interviews it takes to hire a candidate.

c.       List the “perks” of your company.  These are above and beyond normal benefits.  Why do you like working for the company?

2.       Action

a.       Be ready to interview.  When a candidate is presented to you they have been “sold” on the job.  When there is a lack of response or a long wait the candidate loses excitement for the company, position, and hiring authorities.

3.       Feedback

a.       Recruiters need to know if the resumes sent to you are a hit or miss.  When it is a miss give them information as to why the candidate is not a good fit.  Information like this will speed up the search process by avoiding sending similar resumes.

b.      Return the emails or phone calls.  Job orders that do not have urgency behind them are not put on priority.

4.       Exit

a.       Close the job order.  Once the job has been filled (other than by the engaged recruiter) let the recruiter know.

5.       “Wish List” Candidate.

a.       Everyone has a “fantasy” candidate.  It may be a certain skill set, college major, language skill, etc.  Let your recruiter know what your hot buttons are.  If that candidate ever comes onto the recruiter’s radar they will know to send it to you first.
