Need help with regional management was created by Calla
I need help with my regional manager. She is making my life horrible. I started out in this company just filing paperwork. Then when the leasing agent quit because of her, they threw me into her position. I am grateful for the job but she is making my life hell. She belittles me and only tells me what I'm doing wrong. She never encourages me. She throws her food at me when she's mad at me. The last time she visited she told me my idea marketing would never work then took my idea to the owners as her own. They loved it & praised her all week. I don't know what to do. How can I stop her tirades without losing my job?

File a complaint with HR. Throwing food is childish & unprofessional. Belittling employees is also the best way to runot off good employees. If that doesn't work, you now have leasing experience to go to another company.

What role is your Property Manager playing in this scenario? It seems he/she should be backing you and standing up for his/her team. Personally I would point to my chair and ask him/her if he/she could do it better and hand her an application. This RPM is a bully and I do not respect that tactic ever. In fact, tantrums of throwing food can become actionable offenses.

Sometimes we have to make difficult choices, and in this case you have to consider the choice to find another position. In my years of experience I have found people usually do not leave companies, they leave people. They leave because of how their direct report treats and interacts to them, not necessarily because of company policy or other factors relating to an organization. Hopefully your organization has a track for filing a complaint. No matter what the circumstances are, belittling a team member is never professional just as throwing things. If you do not get results with talking to HR, the only action left may be for you to leave. Sorry you are having to deal with this.

Have you talked to the owners and told them that the idea she took for marketing was yours? I can not
imagine an adult throwing food. It sounds like she is acting like a two year old child. What on earth
did you do when she threw the food at you?????

I hate to say it but there is nothing you can do. You are the pee-on in a property management company as with all on-site staff. If anyone complains instead of investigating further they just replace. It's a shame that they truly don't value on-site staff, there's alot of good talent going to waste in this industry.

Three words: Document, Document, Document. Document dates/times and a short narrative for each incident with facts only. Don't insert your personal feelings, speculation or rumors. Then, my advice is to take the documentation to your direct supervisor first. If this RM is your direct supervisor, then HR is a good next step.

And please know that no one is a peon. Every person and position in a company adds value to the organization. If you or anyone else feels undervalued, then perhaps you aren't in the right organization.

Good Luck!
