I am looking at adding a video surveillance system for the two Section 8 complexes I manage. I will need some inside and some outside cameras. Does anyone have anything like this? Has anyone found an affordable solution? I'm in South Dakota if that helps. We need the system for a variety of reasons, including package thefts, furniture dumping at our dumpsters, fights between tenants, people not picking up after their pets, vandalism, etc. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Really affordable? By dumpsters where we didn't have access to wifi we have used deer cameras! You have to then pull the card and read it, and it doesn't store but so much history, but it's an affordable solution! In all our offices (whether we have video cameras or not) we have signs posted in the office that say: Management has the Right But Not the Obligation To Monitor These Premises By Audio And Visual Surveillance  Cameras May Not Be
Continuously Monitored.
Doesn't answer all your questions but I hope this helps!

Hi Kristal,

Do you have a low-voltage contractor that you work with for other items like running cable/internet, access control, intercom, etc.? If so they will have preferred camera products that they like to use, and it's great to have the contractor's assistance specifying, installing, and servicing the product. Of course you'll sacrifice some degree of affordability if you go with this option.

Another option is to use a consumer grade product like Swann www.swann.com/us/swdvk-855808wl . Their systems can typically be installed by on-site maintenance staff, and I've found them to be almost as reliable as professional grade systems over the years.
