Recently my husband and I have been thinking of moving to either Raleigh NC or back home to Myrtle Beach. Unfortunately my company, whom I love, does not have property in these areas. What would be the best way to go about finding a new PM postion in those areas while I'm still residing in Va?

Stephani, I wanted to get back to the city where my house is located on a full time basis a few years ago, so I researched companies I thought I would like to work with/for that had communities in that city. I sent my resume to their corporate headquarters and was eventually offered a position. I think it will help if you want to relocate to your hometown because the employer will know you are serious about making it work. Of course there is no guarantee you will like the new company though. :( If you are on excellent terms with your boss/supervisor, you might inquire from that person if he/she has any contacts in the business in the city where you wish to move, but that would only work if your relationship is accepting of you as a person and not just an employee. Sometimes, this could backfire if they get worried you will leave before they have a great replacement and they "beat you to the punch." Then, horror of horrors, you have no job at all. I am also curious, too - any advice on obtaining a position when you are able to move to ANYWHERE, USA? Good luck! Let me know what happens!

I would like to add to Mindy's post and suggest that you would be willing to assist in finding the right person to take over for you; whether it is a new hire or an internal promotion, and train that person in exchange for assistance in locating an opportunity in your new area.
