We are having a really hard time with our residents cleaning up after their dogs. They have bags throughout the complex and trash stations, it is in their lease that they will fined $50 for not cleaning up a after their dogs and yet it is a huge problem. Any tips?!

We have had great success implementing a "poop monitoring" program via DNA sampling. Without going into too much detail (gross!), there are companies out there that will partner with you who can test poop samples, and link them back to the dogs (and dog owners!). Just google dog poop DNA or similar and you will find them. I believe we use a company called Mr. Dog Poop (no joke!). Good luck.

How do you keep your pet owners from bringing in another dogs poop for their sample? How do you verify that it is their dogs poop?
Thanks,

Luckily for us we have security cameras. We only permit assistive/support and service animals. So when we see poop lying about we check the cameras to see who permitted it to happen. Usually the first offense they get a written warning. Second offense is a lease violation. If they have 3 lease violations during their stay here they get a 30 day eviction notice!! If it happens in an area where there are no cameras and I have NO IDEA who did it, I usually take orange parking lot striping paint and spray an big orange circle around the poo.....the offender almost always sees it (and they think that I KNOW it is them and I am giving them a warning!!!!)so they clean it up.
My bigger problem is the local people who do not live here who allow their dogs to poo on our property (because they think "It's just the welfare folks" so they don't clean up their mess....and of course no camera shows in that area and no one knows who is doing it and I can't blame anyone. We are going to buy some of those "no dog pooping" signs and post them in that area so the "neighbors" know to keep their dogs off our grass!
