Hi there,
Looking for compensation practices for maintenance. Any luck with signing bonuses? We offer free health, which is a great benefit, but others that don't are offering more per hour, and at first look, appears we are not paying as much. What are going hourly rates in your neck of the woods? I am in Denver. Trying to get some context for actual going rates.
Lori, We also pay 100% of our employees' health insurance, which is unusual in our market as well. But as you know, sometimes if you publish your pay range, maintenance applicants don't contact you to give you a chance to SELL that benefit. We have started adding a sentence/phrase in ads that follows us stating we pay 100% of their insurance. In that sentence we quantify approximately how many dollars per hour the insurance benefits add to their compensation. Any other creative ideas out there? It's pretty "dog-eat-dog" on Service Team Recruiting!
NYC-$18-20.00 PER HOUR TO START. FREE HEALTH INS. FOR EMPLOYEE ONLY. ADDING SPOUSE, CHILDREN OR FAMILY WILL COST EMPLOYEE ANYWHERE FROM $77.00 TO $300.00 PER WEEK DEPENDING ON PLAN CHOICES.
Depending on the skill level, we are $13.00-25.00hr for Techs (North East/Mid-Atlantic Corridors). Employer sponsored health care but the employee has to pay a portion as well. Employer Matched 401(k), Rent Discounts for a select few.
We haven't tried sign on bonuses but I find that most Techs that we higher are looking for training opportunities and career growth. Compensation is important but having opportunities to grow is much more important. I left my previous employer because I saw that they promoted on seniority, not ability... it would take me 10+ years to get to the corporate level. We promote on abilities, doesn't matter if you've worked for us 1 year or 20 years... if you have the ability to take on a larger role we promote from within, and that go's much farther then a couple of extra bucks per hour.
Oh... and make sure your glassdoor is accurate, that's the first place most Maintenance Guys go to to know if you are someone they want to work for or not.
