I met with a company yesterday and the end of the conversation led to the possibility of purchasing and installing kiosks in their communities to support both marketing and retention efforts.
Has anyone dabbled in or had any luck with these? Can anyone recommend a company they've used for the kiosk?
We have done the "kiosks" type stations at our high traffic communities, and it works very well. However, we didnt really use any particular company, simply had our IT department install a computer station with restrictions to only access resident portal and community website for floorplans and tours.
I know that Archstone uses kiosks in their leasing offices.
The one thing you really need to look at is how scalable arese the kiosks for the future. The kiosk might have all the "bells and whistles" installed currently -- but as technology and needs change, can the kiosk be updated easily and without additional cost. From what I have heard, this is tough.
BTW I have a great solution instead of the kiosk -- Interactive Digital Display signs. Think about those boards you see in hotels, conference centers, etc. that you can touch for further information on the location including floor plans, maps, weather, nearby dining establishments, traffic, etc. A good example is the "Go Boards" in Marriott Courtyards. These are completely scalable, feature drag and drop technology and can host a myriad of information from current availability of units, current pricing, events schedule, local dining and shopping establishments, schools, etc. Also these boards can be updated "on the fly" by anyone (with the correct authorization) from a browser with drop and drag technology. You want to see this product before making any decisions regarding kiosks.
If you or anyone else is interested in learning more, send me a note.
About two years ago we were in discussions with Crossfire, a division of RealPage about testing some of their touch-screen kiosks they were developing. The killer app there was supposed to be a driver's license reader that would pre-fill the guest card and and take the prospect all the way through to an electronic application. However, after the promised delivery date came and went with 90 days to spare, we staffed up and moved on. Anyway, it seemed like it might have been a very neat and affordable device, so they may be worth a call.
We are doing digital signage for the Multifamily industry. We have put information in an easy to read online catalogue. We also have a video sample online.
