Often there is a lot of time spent working with new and on boarding employees helping them learn the fundamentals of a position, but for those who understand and excel in these already are sometimes in need of further challenges to develop themselves into leaders weather they choose to stay in leasing or become a manager they should be able to lead in this area. Which leads me to the question, what do you think some skill sets/learning opportunities should go into a sales leadership course?
Sales and Management are completely different and have two totally different roles at a property. Although, both have the same goals to lease and retain residents there roles are different.
In sales the person should be trained and become very familiar with your property and your competition and should never step onto the sales floor without that information. The rest of sales can be trained by working with them on a hands on basis like closing techniques etc.
In managment it's about time management and learning to meet the goals of the whole property with everyone interest in mind.
Chrissy,
Thank you for the reply, you are absolutely right management and leasing are two different things all together.
What I am looking and need is what the skill set that would be sought after by a high-level leasing professional.
A high level leasing professional is:
• Someone who already understands the basic fundamentals (closing, follow-up, greeting)
• Is familiar with the property and the competition
• Hits their rental goals and challenges themselves at a higher level
• This particular individual is someone who loves their job and wants to make a career out of it (there are several people I know who do not want to move up to a management position for various reasons but have made a career out of leasing).
What skills/or knowledge would this particular individual be seeking or would be relevant to their job so that the take away is challenging, meaningful, and can assist in their development?
