What challenges does your promoted staff have in learning what “management” truly is? What learning curves do they go through? What key applications do people in management have to learn and what obstacles do they have to overcome? If you were to name the top 5 items a manager needs to work on, what would they be?

As a thought for apartment management training, I would suggest incorporating aspects of Dr. Deming's management philosophy, including his 14 points for transformational management and 7 deadly diseases (deming.org).

Dr. Deming and his philosophy played such an important role in transforming the Japanese economy following WWII (google "toyota" and "deming"), that the most sought-after prize for businesses is the Deming prize.

American business managers ignore Deming's approach at their own peril - witness the demise of one of the great American corporations, General Motors.

If anyone is interested, I have created a poll to help determine where the issues could be when it comes to management skills.
Follow this link if you would like to vote on it.
