Card or not, I'd call a request like that a reasonable accommodation and not worry about it. We do what we can to clean and sanitize after that person and move on
My doctors says - who is also the CMO- of his hospital that in his 40 years of practice, he can’t think of a single condition that would prevent you from wearing a mask. If anything ppl w certain conditions SHOULD be wearing masks.
I had a resident call the police on another resident for not wearing a mask. Not only did the police actually show up, but they were not wearing their masks either and said they were not the mask police and could not enforce it.
FTBA is the Freedom To Breath Agency. Not a govt agency. Just a scare tactic.
But a reasonable accommodation at your property would be handling their business by phone or email.
Dear Friends, I DO NOT support a phony card from a faux authority. I think these are awful and makes it harder for people with legitimate concerns. My comment is NOT about these cards. But before you go guns blazing on all people who say they have a medical condition that precludes them from wearing a mask I just want to say that my wife is one of those people with health conditions and wearing a mask has a negative effect on her. Trust me when I tell you she would rather trade in all of those conditions and be able to wear a mask without negative effects. And in California where I live there are exemptions to the mask decree for people with medical conditions. Again, I'm not supporting someone showing bogus documentation... but I am encouraging empathy and compassion for the people who are really affected.
Use a face shield if you cant breath with a mask!! A resident pulled this card and we suggested for them to use face shield, or apply for reasonable accommodation. Next day all our covid 19 signs were torn down and in the trash. Some people are just plan stupid, big cry babies!!

The card is fake but, speaking from the personal experience of someone with both Asthma & COPD (lung issues at birth) the cloth, non-surgical & N-95 make it extremely difficult to breath. Yes, there is the face shield option that offers the same amount of protection as holding your hand in front of your face. For people that work in an industry where we are over loaded with fair housing and A.D.A training, I'm embarrassed with many of the responses here.
Harold G West agreed, my only thoughts is being an asthmatic myself, is it worst exposing myself knowing I'm at higher risk.
This is why many of communities, and other businesses need to provide reasonable accommodations. No mask, fine! We will deal via phone or email and ill let you do a self guided tour.
Oh look, a way to keep other people safe that doesn’t require a mask. #noexcuses And if someone comes at me with that fake card, I’ll be turning them in for fraud.
Unfortunately if you choose not to wear a mask that is okay. It’s your choice. It’s my choice to protect myself as I am high risk because of asthma and my daughter is as well. I choose to protect my health and my families so I just want show you an apt. We can’t make everyone happy and someone is always going to find a loop hole. I’ve witness myself and my daughter very sick with pneumonia in November and she had it in January, and how that affected our asthma it was very scary. I will do what is best for myself, my team and our residents.
just so you know these cards are fake, it's not covered anywhere in the ADA and the 5th word of this card is misspelled. Also the FTBA doesn't exsit and the website is .com when it should be .gov
Rose, I have severe claustrophobia and anxiety. I can barely put the mask on and the idea of wearing it for any period of time is almost impossible for me to comprehend.
I’m not being dramatic or weak. You could come at me with a knife, gun or even liberal left wackadoodle ideology(lol) and I would meet you with a vigorous defense. Throw a mask on me and I shit down.
This is very difficult for me.
This looks like the online ESA registrations, anyone know how much it costs to get one? I'm 99% sure that nobody actually needs a card, they just have to say they don't wear a ask for medical reasons and they are off the hook (even if they don't really have a medical reason behind it, no proof is necessary).
Fake or not...I wouldn't even worry about that. Have them fill out a reasonable accommodation form, send to their doctor and go from there. Please do not disapprove without proper documentation. Fair Housing & discrimination lawsuits are just waiting to happen. Be safe ❤????
So devils advocate I could have an undisclosed health issue that sends me into panic being around people who refuse to wear masks and it kicks my anxiety into overdrive. Call the ADA their disability wouldn’t have higher prevalence over yours. Just saying....
I wouldn't believe an "exemption card" that has SPELLING ERRORS. This is a distraught person who is trying to be cute by printing up their own right-wing nonsense. I would deny them and let them go find another fool to follow them.
Having claustrophobia or some other condition does not mean you should be exempt. It means that in a world right now where masks are necessary or mandatory, you need to take other precautions for yourself that may include NOT going to those places where masks are required.
I am in agreement, whether the card is self-generated or not, it serves as a request for a reasonable accommodation. It doesn't really matter where we stand personally on mask policies. If they are using this card to notify us that they have a physical or mental disability that prevents them from wearing the mask, which is permissible under Virginia state law at least, then it could end up as a complaint of violation under the ADA. In my opinion, it is not worth the risk. We would make an accommodation for this like we would make for any other reasonable request.
I would not knowingly allow anyone to commit fraud against me and my organization by accepting this card as real. If I decided to let the person get away with not wearing a mask, I would make it very clear that I know this is fraudulent and that I now have trouble believing anything they say. Many states now impose a criminal penalty on those who misrepresent a pet as a service animal. I might remind the person of this and tell them I'm looking into whether or not it is punishable by law to present a fake mask exemption card. Of course, I'm not in a position where my company and I can be sued for this... I don't have these kinds of interactions with residents. I'm venting here, not offering legal advice. This is just one more form of fraud, and it is particularly sad, because the person doing this is not achieving any material gain... they are putting lives at risk for the simple stupid purpose of getting their way in a situation where they feel it's inconvenient or insulting to be asked to wear a mask. (NOT that it would be right if they were stealing a million dollars, but the motivation would seem a bit more clear.)
These are completely fake. Heard about it on the news. They were ordered to remove the federal government's logo. As usual, you can get anything on line.
Fascinating tactic. Completely fake and useless legally. It would be so much easier to just call the business and ask them to bring things out to you in your car, which is the safest accommodation.
I love that it's laminated using a home laminator. Looks like my lifetime membership card to my local organic farm, haha!
