I’m wondering if there is a site where I can find out what a prospective renter would really like to have from their apartment search experience. I have found plenty of horror stories about how apartment hunting sucks, but very little about what the “ideal” search would be from a renter’s perspective.
Try putting yourself in the "shoes" of a renter. Choose a nearby town that you have just found out you are being transfered to. The less familiar you are with the town the more effective the experiment. Determine what your needs and wants are and then set about your "mock" apartment search. This should include everything that a real prospect would experience such as looking through guide magazines, shopping on-line, calling potential communities and actually shopping them. Remember to stick to your criteria so that you can really experience potential frustrations, turnoffs, roadblocks etc. Also note what you found helpful and appealing. Once you are done, take a fresh look at how prospective prospects find your community and what they experience once they do. Imagine if everyone on your staff/company did this individually, then you combined your experiences.
