Alcohol at the pool... Do or don't and why? I manage a community that has a small percentage of college students. Many of them drink beer at the pool. Our company doesn't have a policy in place for drinking at the pool. We have asked all residents to use coozies at the pool and no glass bottles. What ways have worked for you to control this?
We did not allow it, but it is difficult to monitor. Our policy was that water and alcohol just don't mix. The liability involved with pools is so great, that to add the opportunity for someone to do something foolish while under the influence was just wasn't worth it. Does that mean that I constantly patrolled the pool for folks bringing in a cup with alcohol in it? No. There isn't enough time in the day for that.
You can't control how MUCH they drink, but you can control whether or not they drink by the pool.
Ask any campus officer about student behavior when they are drinking. They can't handle it!
Fights! Fights! Fights!
Diving into the pool and breaking their neck on the concrete floor (call any rehab hospital and ask about paraplegics who dove in the pool and broke their necks where alcohol was involved. My husband was one of those 23 years ago).
Does it ruin their fun? What about the fun of the non-drinkers who have to watch drunk people pull down their pants, pull down their friends pants, push people into the pool because it's funny, etc.
No way I would allow anyone drinking in the people or near the pool. No alcohol outside anywhere on my property.
