Let's start this thread by sharing our best retention ideas!

To help get our creative juices flowing, please share your best customer service experience as a renter.

Here's my first one:

Once, while renting a home, my furnace stopped working on Christmas eve. An old, uninsulated four bedroom house is hard to heat with space heaters, so I called my landlord, who lived several hundred miles away. He tried calling furnace repair companies in my area but they were closed for the holiday, so he got in his car and drove to my house to fix my furnace himself.

I like to think I go 'above and beyond' for my residents, but although I probably wouldn't give up Christmas eve with my family, I sure am glad he did!

I have another general customer service one, but I'll save that for another post. B)

Here's one that just happened to me. I had a couple of medical scares this weekend and ended up going to the emergency room Saturday night. On Monday I had a follow up doctor appointment. While on my way there, my sister called to say she was driving down to see me/help me out since I had no use of my left arm. I called the management office to give them permission to let my sister in my apartment. I left a message telling them the situation and to please give her a key when she got there.
When she got there the office was locked but she could see someone was inside. She knocked and they immediately opened the door, then not only got her into my apartment but helped her move a few pieces of furniture that were sitting in my kitchen (I had moved them on Saturday to have my carpets cleaned and then couldn't move them back without help because of the shoulder injury.) That in itself was nice enough but it gets better. Today I came home to find a lovely potted plant on at my front door with a card that said "From all of us at Archstone E
P---, Get Well Soon"
What a sweet, thoughtful thing to do!

A friend of mine from High School works for Archstone; and I know that this is par for the course for them.

This happened to me two weeks ago. I ordered a bed from www.logfurnitureplace.com - I didn't realize until I received it though that I had ordered the wrong size.

I called and spoke to Jason who went totally above and beyond my expectations. He helped me out in a way to save me the most money in fixing my mistake. :woohoo: I so greatly appreciate his help and highly recommend JHE's Log Furniture Place to anyone who is looking for log furniture.

It is good to hear about exceptional, or even GOOD customer service; especially when it seems to have taken the same exit as 'Common Sense'......
