He worked for the company as a temp and desperately wanted a normal job, regular pay and paid vacation. While in a massive renovation on a property that was strife with drug dealing, guns blazing, fires, DEA Agents onsite all day every day. This person dealt with it all ... the job he did was dangerous, disgusting and the likes of which most of us wouldn’t touch. He cleaned the grounds daily, took pride in parking management and policed the property as if it were his own. I believe in the unsung hero’s, the brave onsite team that manages the emotions of the property, have to switch focuses on a dime, then remember where you left off. I believe that these people create the heartbeat of the property, I believe that these people need to be championed and recognized. Not judged, beat down and ridiculed, but celebrated in their contributions.
As long as I worked with Earl, he performed, participated and exhibited spirit. In the end, it’s all about how you are managed, lead and how you are treated!
People treated well will move mountains for you.
Enjoy your Harley ... you deserve it!

Thank you so much for sharing this! Our maintenance teams so rarely get the recognition for what they do, and the ones that have a true passion and appreciation for the job more rarely yet.

I wholeheartedly agree. We recently purchased and rehabbed a similar troubled Sec 8 property in Chattanooga TN and it was such a challenge. Those employees were all commended for all they endured during this time. Happily the property is now thriving and providing programs to assist the residents.

Earl, read the post through a friend and here is what he shared with me ... of course I cried !
Thank you for that Donna. Perfect timing to remind me how far I have come because you were willing to take a chance on me. I was homeless, close to complete destitution and with out hope of a better existence until I came to work for you. I grew to respect you more than any person I ever worked for and have an adoration for you that can only come from a deep and profound respect. Your no nonsense approach to me and my general lack of class and grace, fueled a deep desire to prove my worth to you. My loyalty to you was complete and with out reservation. As you stated "People treated well will move mountains for you." I'm writing you to let you know that all you ever need do, is show me the mountain range in your way and I will move it where ever you say, still to this day. I can never thank you enough or truly explain how you impacted my life for the better like no one else I ever worked for. Forgive my crassness ( as you have so often had too) but you have the biggest set of balls of any employer I ever had and I needed that. You are a great leader and motivator. I count you as one of the great blessings to ever grace my life. I miss working for you dearly. I have nothing but the very best of wishes for you.

I love when these feel good posting show up, makes me all warm and cuddly and reminds me why I have rules of business and conduct, this one is so heart warming that it brings up 3 of them.

" Whenever you exploit someone, it never hurts to thank them. That way, it's easier to exploit them the next time "

and

" Work is the best therapy - at least for your employees "

and my favorite

" Employees are the rungs on the ladder of success. Don't hesitate to step on them. "

Before anyone gives me any slack, I would like to remind you of people's self interest. These rules are visible in the behavior of tenant's daily.
