We have a management business in CA and are considering branching into another state, possible, ID, UT or AZ. We would simply do large apartment buildings with onsite managers in that state, but continue operations from CA. Any advice? Anything we should consider? Would love a mentor to help us through the initial process...

I recommend reviewing all processes and how they would modify with remote management to set the incoming teams up for success. Like any new hire, hire team members that fit your company's core values and not solely the need. I've managed both vendors and portfolios remotely and would be happy to hop on a call to discuss best practices for remote expansion. Congratulations!

Thank you Jacklyn. I might take you up on that offer! I think our biggest concern is learning, understanding and then applying the landlord/tenant laws in accordance with the new state. Being experts in CA management doesn't prepare you for any other state... CA likes to be unique.

We manage 47 communities in 14 states. We have Regional Managers that are also site managers in various areas to help supervise. We love the NAA click and lease program and provides a great lease and spells out local rules. If I can ever help just let me know.
