So I’ve gone from being a wonderful PM with perfect availability for a family in need to “dog whisperer” tonight. Lady messages asking about availability, says she has two dogs, request a picture, determine her dogs facial structure displays a strong jaw - must be mixed with pit bull. Inform her they are on our restricted breeds list (mixed or pure) and we wouldn’t be able to accept them unless she had vet records stating otherwise. Does everyone else go on looks or just the paperwork?!? Are you required to submit pictures or retain them with the resident file?
Going on looks is impossible to tell accurately what breeds are mixed into a dog. In fact liter mates for mixes can look like completely different dogs. Also the fact that it’s 2019 and you still have pit bulls restricted says a lot. Any dog behavior expert would second that. My wife is an aggressive dog behavior specialist and she gets more aggressive labs and Golden retrievers at work than she ever gets pit bulls.
Just paperwork. Lots of dogs have similar features to a pit. And in my experience pits are better behaved than other dogs. The breed restrictions are quite honestly BS and I always hated having them. It’s more about the owner and training than anything else. If paperwork doesn’t say pit(or any other restricted breed). Do your due diligence with a pet interview. Aggressive dogs not allowedx

Why are we all gonna act like vets don’t lie when it comes to dogs that are on the aggressive breed list? Not sure how or why it is legal or ethical but have seen american Staffordshire terrier looking dogs listed as poodles or labs. The vets need to be held accountable.
How about stop restricting breeds? It's an antiquated, inaccurate, and unfair practice. If you're going to do it, you should rely on vet records only, your "assessment" by photo will probably get you sued eventually.
