We have one at our A+ 55 & over community, it has become THE place for weekly resident meet ups in the evenings! But, yes, you need to have a no s’mores rule...it makes a mess!
We have one and kids jump in it and break the gas components, people leave crazy messes, or they have no clue what they’re doing and throw real wood on top of it ????????♀️ it’s a nightmare amenity.
We just had a multi-use patio lounge added to our community and it is beautiful. Residents enjoy the grill area, the relaxing pergola and most of all the firepit. We have rules posted and all lighting, firepit, and gas grills are on timers that deactivate at 11:00 PM to prevent noise disturbance and misuse. We also have security cameras that I can access from my desktop or phone. The residents love this new common area amenity and they take very good care it.
Penny King the company that built it pulled any of the required permits and once it passed all building dept inspections we were able to begin using it right away. We have basic rules for safety but nothing major. Those under the age of 13 need to be with someone 18 or older, no smoking on the patio itself, no pets on the patio and we have proved a grill cleaner and a few other supplies so that residents can clean up after using the grills and tables.
What Linda Stadler Graham said! We've done a few outdoor living rooms, fire pit and gas grills. Nice amenity (video monitor and hours). If you have courtesy patrol, that person could probably lock it up around 10 with not too much dissatisfaction?
We had one for a few years and removed it at my old community. It was nice however was miss used, marshmallow gunk and chocolate all over the rocks, cigarettes in rocks and of course lets not forget the rocks being thrown on the ground and not to mention the trash every where. It was removed with the recent renovations. Hope it works better for your community
