I have allowed it with no problems or complaints but now of course I have one resident having a fit that the assistant manager that lives across the hall installed one.
I'm just gonna say... Deny a resident the option to protect their home with a camera, and then that unit gets broken in to..... That will be a decent lawsuit and bad PR. I don't care what's in the lease for the common areas, don't deny someone the protection of their home. If the complaining resident lived in a house and their neighbor put up a camera then what would they do? You never know when the video recorded on your assistant managers camera will actually help. The ones scared of cameras are the ones that are up to no good.
Josué Adam you do not deny the protection they just have to have it inside their unit to protect their home common areas are not their's to protect...if they lived in their own house it would be their property and they have a right to put them on their property common areas are not the resident's property
Myra Defoe "I'm visually impaired and can't see out my peephole, I would like a reasonable accommodation to have a Ring Camera that I can better see with to who is knocking on my door".
Conrad Ward it does not meet the wire tapping laws in even in some two party consent states due to it being used for security. There must be a burden of proof that it is, without question, being used outside of that use. I said, clearly, that it varies from state to state. People have to stop thinking that laws are one size fits all. Ring and similar types have not be outlawed anywhere as of yet. If management or ownership chose to ban them, they is allowed as a private company. It is not breaking a law in general putting one up.
There is a right to privacy ...someone with the ring camera can watch who is coming and going in every unit...Company can have cameras because the are the agent to owner
Be aware of local or state laws in regards to this. If the camera records someone else's home directly that can be where you can get into an issue. Or at least that is how the law is here in NY.
I am in lease up and my community is all smart products, I think it is great as well as is a deterrent for break ins. You will always have those that will complain no matter what, and I would think her neighbor would appreciate unless they have something to hide
We’re looking into adding “smart homes” with our new Rehab Packs... but minus the ring doorbell which sucks because that’s what I was most excited about! My Regional explained that depending on the location it could effect the neighbors privacy if they’re directly across... makes sense????????♀️
I guess this is the ONE downfall of living in an Apartment Community. ????

At a class by our attorneys we were told that legally they can have cameras inside their apartment but they can’t record outside. I would call your legal representation.
