Extreme pros and cons to both. Sure that maint. man will come and fix your hot water heater .....but believe me its not free. You pay inside your extremely high rental prices. Oh and when you are paying that $1500 for a two bedroom apt also just roll down your window and throw the $1500.00 out. At least you build equity in home ownership, but yes you will have to call a repair person every now and again.
