I've heard about it in New York city and a few in florida. The "dominos" court case basically spawned this new breed of ada shakedown litigation. It's worse in NY and NYC because those places have damages statutes above and beyond the ada
Guys, the main ADA compliance is giving text to all images. Blind people cannot see your images, just help them see with your words. Some people can’t see colors, help them by making your buttons different colors on hover. This isn’t something to “ambulance chase” you. Imagine viewing a website when you’re blind, or deaf. Give subtitles to videos or text (hover over) to images. What if you had to view a webpage blind? You’d like it if someone explained it for you.
Leah Love Orsbon agreed! But do they have to sue? A warning would suffice allowing us to properly comply. We are small potatoes compared to the huge money makers like Target, etc
Suzette, oh I completely agree with this. And I think everyone should get the opportunity to correct it - I think showing an attempt to have it ADA compliant is better than not doing anything though.
Our web developer was able to run a tool that could alert us to anything out of compliance. As Leah stated, ensuring you have captions on your images/videos is the biggest thing you can do. Also, be sure to include TTY: 711 on websites and collateral for the hearing impaired. 711 is the nationwide number for hearing impaired individuals to communicate. Unfortunately some Lawyers are out there just trolling websites trying to find someone out of compliance.
