This stuff started showing up during the 2008-2010 economic downturn as well. It was more aimed at empty houses then, but I'm not surprised if people used it for apts and condos too. And the worst part is that in some states, after you squat for so long, then you have to go through an eviction process if I'm understanding the laws correctly.
Heather Blume Yep, I had to do this a few times during the last economy downturn. We discovered it way before the 30 days so i was able to get them out pretty quickly—but in one case, they stayed with a friend and wouldn’t leave. The friend tried to get them out but they wouldn’t go, and they were able to give the police enough doubt that they wouldn’t help. The resident actually just moved out because he didn’t know what to do...So we ended up having to go to court to evict.
Wow! I'm going to suggest you go through today and do a really thorough inspection of all your vacancies! Geez, who the heck creates something like this!
