These are always hard. Objectively you can bill the resident for that repair. On the flip side you don’t want to create a disincentive to call and report it in the future. We’ve eaten too many of these costs for the long term picture.
Miles, For one's like that, we split the bill. Because we can't prove the pipes were good and not slightly clogged, AND the tenant saw exactly why the pipe burst, it is good will to share the cost. I can promise the tenant will never put rice down the drain again
Albree, I assist with individual houses now instead of an apartment complex. I can't guarantee pipe conditions in any of them. That's why our office would share that bill. Unless the plumber can verify the condition of the pipes.
Maria Johnson people keep talking about conditions of the pipes in the context of this photo. Condition of the pipes doesn’t factor into this at all! You don’t put rice down the kitchen sink in any quantity close to what is represented here.
Yep. I hate disposals. Know a plumber with a disposal? Me either.
We don't need to put this stuff in the water supply anyways. Throw it away or compost. Landfills use the rotting food to make methane fuel and we don't get clogs like this.
