It amazes me with some of the things a Property Manager has to do. This week I rehomed a cat, tried to find a homing pigeon's owner, went above and beyond to help a Resident with her cable and internet, had a Resident scream at me because there's a bird nest on her balcony, and had to find a place to park 2 boats.
I have a story for the books that I can't stop thinking about...
Non-lease holding person made their way into the maintenance shop and assaulted a member of staff a month or so ago. (Everyone is okay) The actual resident associated with the assailant was asked to leave and they did.
Now, there's a huge mouse infestation in the neighboring apartment which was also vacant until recently.. 11 years I've worked with this property and never have mice been an issue. Today the head of maintenance spotted mice in the actual vacant. Confirmed they are feeding mice and not field mice. I've been saying all week this was an intentional and malicious act just based on property and tenant knowledge and I can't get over it.
Not if they get sprayed in the face with pepper spray by some random person On the street and it wasn’t even on the property. And yet the resident decided to tell me instead of telling the police. Like I’m going to do something about it.
A visitor of one of our residents today stopped the manager who was walking the grounds to ask her " hey! Do you smoke weed?"...." umm, I'm the property manager". Talk about some back peddling.
We are all nuts for taking on this challenge and not bailing out because it’s a hard and thankless job. We all could write books on our experiences. But then 1 day every so often the world is right and you actually are proud of what you achieved. Then another 30 plus days drag with non-stop problems. Why do we do this??? S T R E S S. We are a tough bunch
