1. Dear resident, the self clean function will indeed set off the smoke alarms if the oven is “filthy”. I would suggest opening your windows for a little while in the beginning of the cycle and turning on your vent fan. If it is really bad and you feel you would rather clean in manually “Easy-off” would be the best chemical option. In the future you might find it helpful to use the self cleaning option periodically to avoid having a huge build up of grease and grime.

2. Stfu. You are the first and only resident to use the oven, the building is brand new and nobody made the mess but you.

Def number 2 ???? but for real if its that gross they need to spray easy off over night and the next day go at with steel wool. And definitely don't be pigs, run the self clean every month. I swear i wonder who raises these people to be so helpless

I self-cleaned mine today and it was almost spotless. I just wanted to run it before I move out. And it set off the smoke detectors (also first and only resident to live here) and I had all doors and windows open. Smoke detector is right by the oven.

Option 3, Gee Karen maybe if your oven is that filthy I wouldn't want to see the rest of your unit..... try cleaning more frequently, it will help.... if your not sure how, Google has great resources on how to clean!!! Have a great day‼️ ????????????

Using oven cleaner in a self cleaning oven will damage the surface and should never be used.

I’m guessing the resident was saying that they’ve been trying to self clean from the get-go, and it always sets off the smoke detectors. Maybe before getting defensive and offended, ask for clarification. Maybe the smoke detectors are too close to the oven to be able to use the self clean function? Maybe the resident should use the easy off, and then try the self clean again when they have it clean? Maybe they should shoot a video to prove that the oven really wasn’t filthy the first time they tried? If I was that resident, I’d be pretty frustrated that I had to prove myself like that, but it is what it is.
A little compassion goes a long way.

I would scan a copy of the cleaning directions provided for the oven by the manufacturer to her since they are brand new ovens. Make sure you don’t instruct her on what to do because she will say it is wrong and it will be your fault. And remind her to open up her windows. I would also remind her she can use the self cleaning feature as often as her cooking style requires her too. Your in a no win situation with this lady btw. You can only “CYA” with her.

I heard somewhere that using easy off will ruin the self-cleaning properties of the inside surfaces...

Thank God you asked for advice! I’d hate for them to think you aren’t a serious landlord if you had sent them #1.
#2, allll the way.

There is a better way than EasyOff - 4 parts white vinegar, 2 parts lemon juice, 1 part Dawn dishwashing detergent.

I would screen shot oven cleaner from Google and at the end say: "there are a variety of options to clean it or you can have our cleaners number who charges fair rates. Once the oven has been cleaned we recommend wiping the oven down after the oven has cooled each time and using the self cleaning option once a month and this will help prevent that pesky smoke detector."

Also gotta love the residents that claim random stains come up from the bottom side of the carpet. Um. The carpet and pad were brand new when you moved in. Any stains were caused by you
