Dear Residents -
1. There is a reason you are not supposed to burn candles in apartments.
2. Teach your 15 year old child what a fire extinguisher is for please
3. Teach your 15 year old child how to call 911 please
4. If your 15 year old child cannot complete tasks 2 or 3, you should not leave said 15 year old child by themselves while you go shopping even if they are engaged in online school.
5. No, I am not obligated to pay for you a hotel. You burned your apartment down and there are no others to move you to - we are 100%.
6. Yes, you will be responsible for the damages caused to your apartment and the one below you - both must be gutted. That is why you have renters insurance.
7. Oh, you are going to sue me and get me fired because your rent and deposit will not be refunded? Hahaha- good luck with that!
And about the family below you that just moved in that has now had their lives thrown into chaos, the ones standing next to you that you did not even bother to acknowledge but just shrugged your shoulders at, I apologized for you. I told them I was sorry for what they were going through.
Pamela Wise exactly actually I’m evicting one right now for setting her kitchen on fire, the gonna say we are slum lords and the property is run down, like mam why are you trying to stay, had the nerve to say it’s not like she was smoking a blunt..
Oh I am so sorry! Been there before. My horrible day, was nothing compared to yours. your in my thoughts. If you need anything, encourage ment or someone to vent to, look me up. A fire is a horrible thing to deal with on top of everything else.
Kathy Winfrey Chaney fifth one in my 20 year career. worst one though by far - more than half of the bedroom ceiling was gone and the roof rafters were exposed! oh my jesus, it is terrifying to think how bad it almost was. i have to focus on that it is just the two. The "what ifs" and "almosts" will drive you insane.
Christi Anderson I lost an entire building once. No one was hurt thank goodness. Small child playing with matches. Caught mattress on fire. Took months to get that building up and running again. I hadn't been a manager for very long. But most of the residents stayed and waited for their apts to get fixed.
Debbie Malloy DiBernardo me, too, ma'am! but if it had to happen, I am glad it was during the day when people were home, no one was hurt, and damage was contained!
My first fire was a child taking a candle under the bed, like a flashlight. Then he was too scared to go tell his parents that he’d started a fire until it was too late. The entire building went went down; 12 units.
Christi, no, thankfully. It was during the day so people were awake. People who work or worked in Antioch, TN will probably all remember the fire even though it was way over a decade ago. The little kid and the parents blamed themselves so much that it really made us sad. Then, the month after the building was finished and people had moved in, someone’s ex-boyfriend tried to set her apartment on fire. It was a ride!
Leah Love Orsbon no, I get it. it just irritated me how they have no regard for the lives of others they blew up or damage they caused. but i am supposed to bend over to pay for them a hotel, um hell no! I would never say that but you can bet I thought it!! lol
UnfortunatelyWhat I am learning is that parents no longer teach their children to take accountability for anything. Parents are constantly making excuses for their children which in turn causes a whole lot ofIssues. I’ve seen it when it comes to things in general daily Life. I’ve seen it when it comes to their daily schooling and a child feels a test and the parents Automatically blame the teacher because how can their child possibly ever fail a test. It is sad and then you take a look at the parents and they don’t like taking accountability either and they would rather just say they’re going to sue you and attempt to and lose because they always think they’re right. I’m really sorry you had a bad day!! don’t worry though. Tomorrow is a new one!
Jennifer Leeanne its all good really! no lives lost and my supervisor & regional maintenance director showed up to support 100% and a massive crew from a emergency remdiation company - got back up!
Christi Anderson I am very happy that no one was hurt and it sounds like you have an awesome support team at your property that come in and back you are can help you out. That’s amazing
Jennifer Leeanne after once working for a company that didn't, it really makes all the difference. i have been with this company now for 10 years and the only way I plan on leaving is by retirement someday or the grave. ????

Btw I know responsibility is on them, but let them contact insurance, pull the policy up for them....basic customer service....if required...were is your copy...help!
Christi Anderson perfect. It is bad for everyone, and the mood gets projected on us....just remember, they had insurance, it could be worse, and they are the ones in a hotel tonight....and the neighbor
Annie Hamblin oh I did take the high road. do not mistake my transparency of feeling in this forum here to mean that I was less than professional or not courteous to them. I checked on them & their visitors frequently and made sure they were okay. I even gave options for nearby communities that may be in their price point to keep her child in the same school
There will be days like this in pm but I am so sorry that people can be self centered and uncaring - especially when they caused the problem!! Glad everybody is ok.
Had this happen while one kids mom was at work and the other kids mom was napping on the couch. Cigarette lighter and aerosol cans. Lost 4 units and 2 pets
Lost an entire 24 unit bldg about 15 years ago due to 1 drunk adult with a cigarette in the middle of the night . He tossed it towards an ash can on the wooden balcony but missed. It came very close to killing a little boy who was sleeping in the apartment above. Thankfully no one was injured. One year and one million dollars later the building reopened
There have been fires in a couple of my properties recently. One was from a hoverboard charging. Damaged units on 4 floors.
Another tenant who had moved in a couple of weeks earlier had a cooking fire. She kept insisting she could go back in the apartment (fire dept said not safe) and wanted us to make the arrangements for her to have alternative housing. She came in with the assistance of a housing dept (from homeless shelter) so we directed her to them.
These claims were 100k for us and since that is the limit of renters insurance, we have to eat some of the cost. Also found out that insurance doesn’t pay for the renter’s apartment damage in all cases.
One of the fires occurred in the same building of major water damage. Tenant hung a hanger on a sprinkler head that was on a wall. Tenant went out and when sprinkler broke, it flooded 4 floors plus damaged some maintenance tools in basement.
I told the property manager we need a non denominational blessing for that building.
Wow! I have a client who rents in a high rise apartment building and there was a fire in another apartment which impacted his stay. His renters insurance paid for him to stay at a hotel for the next month or so. I make my tenants understand they need renters insurance.
