Question about upgrading kitchen appliances in bulk. We are about to do this for 45 occupied units at a 3 story garden style building where we have already upgraded countertops and cabinetry, and are now just looking to install a new stainless fridge/dw/stove/microwave in each one.
Are there vendors in this industry that typically handle the install and haul away of the old appliances? My maintenance crew could handle this but I don't want to dedicate them to the project when there must be companies that do this more efficiently.
The reps that we've talked to so far (Chadwell Supply and GE Direct) were surprisingly expensive for installation services and made it sound like asking them to install and haul away was unusual. Even breaking up delivery dates into a manageable schedule did not seem normal.
While I'm asking -- any other tips/tricks for executing this kind of project? We've done these kinds of upgrades on a smaller scale but not this many at once.

Installation should be something your crew can handle. Stoves and fridges are plug&go, so are microwaves really. Dishwashers shouldnt be bad either, plumbing is already there.
Haul away - find a junk hauler in your area, they're much cheaper.

Not exactly as plug and play as you think. Do you know that unboxing, taking the protective films off and all of the tape takes 5x as long as pushing her a prepped fridge in and hooking up the ice maker? About the same with ranges. Microwaves are quick unless it’s an over the range. Chances of the holes lining up, even among the same brands, is very small. Then you have clean up once you drill the holes. Not counting the carrying up and down stairs, hauling away packing material etc.... if it was a few I’d keep it in-house. 45 should be subbed out. I’m sure the guys are plenty busy already and nothing is as easy as it looks from the office.

They should deliver to the unit doors for you; you’ll still have to unpack and install and remove the old appliances. If they are still in good shape you may be able to donate. We donated to Habitat Restore at my last property and they came and took the old ones for us.

If you order through Wilmar or Hd supply they offer Installs. It’s hit or miss with the crews though.

I’ve used HD before. They do pretty well with this. As long as it is scheduled they do well.

Try Lowe’s. I would also bid the work as just supplying the appliances and your crew doing the install compared to the doing the install & providing appliances. You may be able to get the appliances cheaper but still third party the install through a separate vendor at a lower rate.

If you are buying 45 bulk appliances you need to find an appliance co who will do it for free..that's alot of business you are throwing their way

We often purchase packages from ABC Warehouse and they deliver and install. I would rethink the stainless though. We recently did a new phase with stainless and they scratch and damage easily and show every single fingerprint. If residents use magnets of any type, they leave permanent marks that we can't remove.
As far as removal of the old appliance, Habitat for Humanity will pick up working appliances and you can write off the donations. There are also vocational tech repair schools that will take them to use in classrooms for hands-on training.

We buy new/replacement appliances at Lowe’s. They haul away for $20 each. They don’t install dishwashers or over the range microwaves though. Personally, I’d rather use my maintenance team on a rotation. Pull one guy today and another one tomorrow etc. honestly, they will enjoy the break from the normal routine and you’ll have more control over the process. Instead of paying to haul the old appliances, contact a local scrap metal person. They’ll take it for no cost.

I have done this in the past and have worked with local organizations who take the old appliances as donations. It saved significantly on cost of haul off.

HD Supply will deliver the appliances to the units and unbox them. They also do bulk pricing. But good luck with the removal of old appliances. Our guys have to do that themselves, and then get a junk guy to haul them away. We got a fancy electric/battery Dolly where one man can move them up and down stairs alone. That also came from HD

we did a renovation of about 70 units. as long as they worked and were in decent shape, I gave them away to those in need in the community(town we were in). granted, we didn't buy them as we bought the property to renovate, but it was well received. otherwise let maint take to scrap or again had one guy in the community who did it and let him

There’s always someone that will collect them and sell for scrap at the dump. I’m sure there is someone in your city to do this.

If you have a ARD where you are they will deliver install and take old appliances away.. your best bet is to get you a junk guy that will pay for your old appliances and haul them away.
