For the record, am I correct in saying shalom is goodbye or peace? This can be said at any time, correct?

Yes, you are correct; the word 'Shalom' actually has 3 meanings: Hello, Goodbye AND Peace....

Strictly speaking, shalom translates to "peace," but is often used as hello or goodbye, just like in English.

Instead of saying L'Shana Tova, you can also say just Shana Tova.
Proper pronunciation: (luh shuh naw' toe vaw')
