And I can guarantee that if you say something to the tenant about condition they left the apartment they’ll tell you they left it cleaner than it was when they moved in or another common tactic is they will tell you about the time something broke and you didn’t fix it immediately. People are wonderful aren’t they?
When I was in this business I laid brand new carpet down in a unit and when they moved I discovered they rebuilt an engine on it. I screamed why do many times then screamed it again when they fought me over the charges of the carpet not to mention the huge melted burn hole in the freezer lol
This is so sad but, I definitely have seen way way worse working in apartments. Horrific hoarders, and one resident let his dog use the whole upstairs bedroom as a bathroom for as long as he lived there and never picked it up on a 13 month lease!
Reminds me of a time at a base I worked in years ago where the resident skipped on us and left their dog behind, the management didn’t go check it immediately because the building was supposed to be torn down, however a near by neighbor called because of a smell coming from the apartment front door, we found a decayed puppy melted into the flooring, the tenant and the property manager got in serious trouble over that
