Here’s a twist. I’m not verbally abused by my residents. I am verbally abused by my property management company.
I recently left property management and went to a community management position. The position is for a mobile/rv park. I have been working in this position a little under 2 months. This property is huge! 317 lots! It’s only me and a wonderful maintenance person.
Since week 2 of being employed there, it’s been made known to me from the home office that my days are numbered. The verbal, toxic behavior from the men at the home office would leave anyone absolutely stunned!
I was literally left there after 2 days w/ very minimal training of the process the property management company expects from me.
So it’s back to finding the right fit for me in this field. I really love this job but I will not tolerate being abused by anyone. Wish me luck!

Edited to add that I would never just walk away from this property. That would be such a horrible thing to do to my residents after they just went through a Cat 4 hurricane a year ago. I’m going to wait till one of them from corporate fly on in to fire me. I guess I am quietly quitting.

Between older emails and online reviews I’ve read, this property management company is known for being abusive and toxic.

Just quit now lol. It’s not horrible to do to the residents. There’s temp agencies the company can pull from. They’ll have someone there next day. There’s a huge demand for property managers. Find your local apartment association or local multil family Facebook group. If you put yourself out there, you’ll have several interviews lined up by this time on Monday

Jack Dewberry thank you for that advice. I’m disappointed but I know it’s not me w/ the issues. It almost seems these guys pride themselves in being such jerks to the managers.

They will not change. Only you can change your environment and you deserve to be treated like a human being. Good luck!

Why quietly quit? They likely will just continue to abuse you and not fire you because they can't fill the position. Don't take the abuse, look for a new job before you're completely burnt out.

Maybe they do it because they think you won’t quit and they can just take their frustrations out on you. Have you talked to anyone at corporate about it?

Andrea Juliet Razevich yes. I asked my supervisor about this behavior just yesterday at the end of the day. He made excuses for the behavior and in so many words he told me I deserved it.

Sorry this happened to you. This is why I always read the reviews about a company before I even apply. The grass is, sometimes, not greener on the other side.

I assume you work for one of the larger owner/operators. I have been in the space for many years - and in FL with the largest for several years, specifically in the Ft. Myers market. DM me if I can help.

Sara Elizabeth yes. They are a bit large. 34 properties currently and will probably have 50 by the end of the year.

Save all your emails. You may need to file a lawsuit against those jerks.

Vanessa Cruz Bertrand when I woke up at 1:30 this morning, that’s the first thing I did. I did record one conversation w/ the guy in accounting being abusive.

Dawn E. Walden FYI, being a jerk alone is not illegal and will not rise to the level of a lawsuit. The conduct needs to be based on a protected class (gender, race, etc) to rise to the level of a lawsuit, or something like retaliation for making a good-faith report to OSHA. Great article here on your rights in the workplace: slate.com/.../labor-law-usa-know-your-workers .... With that being said, no one deserves to put up with any kind of abuse. There are other jobs out there.

Brooke Frederickson I feel like they know this and they get a thrill out of mistreating the managers. Fortunately I’m in a position where I don’t have to put up with it. Putting these keys in the rent box is sounding better and better.

They are not going to quietly fire you. The tenants are not your kids. It's great to think about them but I would never factor residents into a decision like this. They can kick rocks lol j/k. I'd leave, its not worth it. Sending you lots of hugs. I'm sorry you're going through this.

I just went through that. I couldn’t even keep staff, they all kept quitting because of my regional attitude and mouth towards everyone. She even did this to me in front of my family members that popped in to take me lunch one day. I reported her, then got fired the next day. My bills are piling up and I can’t seem to get a job anywhere in this industry. Choose wisely. But don’t put up with it. Know your worth!
