I've accumulated tips from all over, so not all these ideas are originally mine, and I apologize that I don't remember where each idea came from.

Remember that craigslist rules say you can't post "the same" ad more than once. There is no limit to how many different ads you can post. ;) Of course we don't want to irritate prospects with multiple ads, our goal is to get people from each audience to click on one of ours.

The way to appeal to different audiences is with completely different ads. Gamers, businessmen, moms, etc., will all have different trigger words that catch their eye and get them to click on your ad, then visit your community. Ask your friends in different demographics what key words would appeal to them. One of my video game playing friend likes to see ads with the headline "LEVEL UP." because it's a phrase that indicates a gamer-friendly community. Few others (including me) would have a clue what it means.

Posting on Thursday for the weekend and then again on Monday produces the best results. Post right before lunch and right before going home. The heaviest traffic times are lunch time and right after 5 p.m.

Change headings...alternate headings and content but get the overall point across

My very favorite is to use symbols in my headline to grab attention.

Look at ads for other cities and countries and see what catches your eye. We all have local phrases and words that vary greatly. We say "apartments," but in England they say "flats." Use these same-but-different words to make your adds unique.

Use words to appeal to different parts of a prospects personality. Plain, romantic, or Heroic. This suggestion came from an advertising newsletter called "copyblogger." It is more for advertising/sales but is chock full of ideas for advertising in any industry. I highly recommend subscribing to it.

Plain: “Solve Email Problems”
Heroic: “Battle Your Email Overload”
Romantic: “Love Your Email Inbox Again”
