Have you noticed designs getting bolder and bolder? Mixing and matching of patterns and colors? Make way for ???? Carnival Core. (P.T. Barnum approved razzle dazzle!)
We are starting to customize our spaces to reflect our true personalities. A great way to make a splash is through styling with your floor and wall choices. Pro tip: Start in a small area like a cloffice, small bath or laundry area if you are experimenting with this look.
Carnival Core is just as it sounds. Nostalgic, loud, bold, maximalist, in-your-face design. Want to spot this trend? Look for "more is more" of a style aesthetic. Here are a few looks to get you started.
1. Contrasting pops:
Check out this mosaic pattern in the laundry area in colors white and indigo. It's a wowza moment! Perfect to distract from laundry baskets and unfolded clothes. Go ahead and let that dryer go another cycle. It creates a happy space to spend your time.
2. Vibrant statement colors:
This 3D triangular tile in pink is blushing with depth and dimension. Just don't call it mauve because this retro color packs a flirty punch in a bath area or changing room by the pool.
3. Black and white contrasting checkerboard:
Perfectly styled nostalgic 12x12 tiles alternating in black and white strike a beautiful contrast. (I'm now suddenly craving a candy apple.) Happy memories flow in this chic yet timeless look.
4. Black and White Pennies:
Penny round mosaics in a whimsical polka dot also bring on the fun. Dotty over this backsplash? That's the point! And it would be just as darling on a shower floor. Black and white goes with any color scheme so this is an easy one to incorporate into your unit’s design.
5. Wavy or Diamond patterns:
In bedrooms you can use patterns like this soft surface carpet with wavy lines bringing refined Carnival Core. You can incorporate this in other soft fabrics like bedspreads, window treatments and throw pillows.
So, throw it back to your roots and favorite memories. Try the bold. Try the beautiful. Minimalists, use it sparingly. Maximalists, go for it. And don't forget to stock up the pantry with cotton candy, popcorn, peanuts and crackerjacks. Come one, come all!
