I ran across an interesting article that talked about pet-friendly employers who, in an attempt to create compelling employment packages, were implementing perks for their team members adopting pets.
“Pet-friendly” employers: with this pandemic, a US insurance SME, Zebra, decided to step up and make the first annual bonus offer for keeping a rescued dog or cat. It is a $ 300 scholarship that is part of a larger package of family benefits that the employee can take advantage of. In Mass, a cleaning supply company in Lenox and a design company, Ceros, offer similar conditions from 2020.
Even more interesting is the mental health aspect of the push towards pets. As employees spend more time isolated in their homes with limited interaction, programs like these help to provide much-needed companionship, boosting mental health during a time where COVID is attacking us mentally, as well as physically. Obviously this is in relation to employment, but mental health certainly affects our communities, as well.
Are you all implementing any new pet adoption (or similar) policies during this time to help on this front?
