Why Can't I "Un-See" That Facebook Picture??

Why Can't I "Un-See" That Facebook Picture??

Why Can't I "Un-See" That Facebook Picture??

A few days ago a video popped up a bunch of times on my Facebook feed…and I am still trying to get the image out of mind! AUGH!!

The title of the video was something like “You’ll Never Use Soap Again!” and while I didn’t watch it, the video was supposedly showing the awful health effects of using soap or shampoo. Then to accentuate the point of the video, the screen shot of the video on my Facebook feed had some kind of horrific looking skin condition or growth on it, which ostensibly is what could happen to you if you used soap.

It’s FAKE!

If you see this on Facebook don’t click on it. I did some research (thank you Snopes.com!) and it’s a fake with video/photo editing used to make it appear that something horrific has happened. It’s also a “sharejacking” type of video that requires you to share it on your page before you can watch it. Once you allow the share on your page, it gains access to your information and everyone on your feed is exposed to the video.

Why can’t I erase this??

All night the image of the video screen shot kept popping up in my head and as much as I didn’t want to keep seeing it my head, especially since it was really a fake, I couldn’t…and it continued to gross me out (as it is doing right now as I write this!).

There is a huge truth here that we can all learn from this….we really need to be mindful of what we put in our heads, don’t we, because once it’s in there, it’s in there…and you can’t just hit delete and get rid of it.

Many years ago I used to watch hours and hours of news a day, because I loved being completely aware of what was going on in the world. So, when there would be “breaking news story” I’d watch the endless coverage, even though much of that didn’t have anything directly to do with me. But then, I discovered that watching hours and hours of the news did nothing for me, and often just bummed me out.

So now I typically scan the headlines to see if there is anything I really need to know and then I move on to stuff that is a little better for me.

I’ve learned that what you put in, really does come out in your daily life! Let me give you another example…

Charles Schulz and Peanuts

A few weeks ago I was in Minneapolis and St.Paul for a speaking engagement-and that was the childhood home of Peanuts creator Charles Schulz, of which I have been a huge fan since I was a kid.

As I drove through the area I realized that the homes I saw looked just like the homes I saw in the strip; the architecture, the long walkways to the front doors, the stoops that Charlie Brown and the gang sat on, it was all there, right in front of me!

What Charles Schulz experienced in his life came through in his life’s work; and the same thing happens to you and me as well!

What can you do?

What are the things that make your heart feel good? That energize you and fill you up? What things motivate and encourage you and challenge you in good ways?

Fill your brain with those things!

For me that means reading books, listening to messages, or watching programs that are more positive in nature. Sunday nights have become “watch Hallmark movies/shows” (I love Signed, Sealed, Delivered) night in our home and my wife and I enjoy ending our week that way.

When I wake up on Monday, I can feel the difference….and you will too!

So, what are YOU filling your mind with? Are they things you wish you could "delete" and "erase?" or stuff that refreshes, energizes, and makes you feel great?
