Hello everyone - I am the property manager of a brand new A class property that is now hiring for a FT leasing consultant. We have been advertising through Craigslist only however, we aren't getting much response. I'm curious to see how other managers have found their leasing consultants in the past.
Any help would be much appreciated. Have a great day!
I have heard that others go "shopping", meaning they literally go shopping in retail and then find the best salespeople who help them and ask if they want a change. Pretty interesting concept, I think!
Controversial, but I'll say it anyway. Shop your competitors and if one leasing agent stands out, hire that person. You get someone good, and a competitor loses someone good.
Did you go to your local apartment association? The other is, it may be how your posting is reading, or what you are offering is not competitive. Not saying any of those last two are correct, but I would compare what you are offering compared to others.
Then, yes there is looking outside of the market, but then you will also have to have a more hands on as well as plan in additional training in your budget when getting someone outside of the industry.
Another approach is also a bit on the "poaching" side, I guess. I noticed that a several wait staff at some restaurants are very prone to providing excellent customer service and I have been known to recruit some of them, especially for part time gigs if the still want to keep the service position or are going to school. I also like to chat up the hotel desk clerk or concierge since those people have usually had some good training and are usually very helpful to me in terms of providing information about the city I am visiting. I figure their attitudes translate well to the multifamily industry.
Hi Erin: Just came across your question. I too am fairly new at my Marketing Property Management Job. I have been using Zillow, Criagslist, Facebook, and now just started into LinkIn. Hope that helps
