I'm considering starting a podcast for my community. So many people use their MP3 players or ipods/phones when they are working out or walking their dogs or riding public transit that I can't help but wonder if I could get them to download a weekly podcast from their apartment community. We'd focus on shows about the town we live in, roommates, have guest speakers, etc...
Has anyone ever started a podcast? I'm sure I can google info about it, but if anyone has input here, I'd love suggestions!
Thanks!

I have never heard of an apartment community starting one, and I think it's interesting, but it's potentially a money pit in terms of ROI I would imagine. If you could streamline the content research aspect, it might be feasible, and frankly would be an interesting way to showcase the community as not just housing, but rather a lifestyle company. But still a very, very tough option.

Hi Heather!
I love this idea! We've done podcasts at Grace Hill for a few years and the investment is primarily in labor.

I wanted to share with you an example of a video podcast from an apartment community, River Place Towers, in Lowell, MA, which is owned/managed by Princeton Properties. They produce a podcast called Downtown Dish. It's really fun! It sounds like similar content to what you have in mind. I hope it is helpful for you to see!

River Place Towers Podcast: Downtown Dish

Keep us posted as your own podcast comes together, OK? I'd love to see/hear it.

That's awesome!
My hope is that we can promote the podcast, not just at our own community, but in our city and the college.
It would be great if we could have people use our fitness room and tune into the podcast while they workout or listen to it on the University bus when they go to classes.
Thanks for sharing the video blog!

WOW! I was searching for communities who have a podcast and this post showed up. I just thought about starting one! I wonder, did you ever start one? I thought it would be cool because not everyone opens their emails and we cannot put notes on everyone's door all of the time. There is still an outstanding issue which I'm going to research this morning as well and that is the people who do not utilize the internet at all. I am going to see if there is something where they can dial a phone number and listen to the recording.

I have an old podcast still out there and it only takes a little bit of time to gather up what you're going to speak about and the podcast should only be around 15 minutes. I think it's a WONDERFUL idea and I would love to hear about yours if you ended up starting one!
