The Board of Directors for AANM chose Albuquerque Heading Home as our Charity of Choice. The vision is an Albuquerque where homelessness is rare, short-lived and non-recurring. Albuquerque Heading Home was launched in early 2011 and emerged out of the Community Response to Homelessness in Albuquerque, a plan developed in 2007, by the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness. As a community?wide initiative under the leadership of Mayor Richard J. Berry’s administration and local not-for-profit organizations, Albuquerque Heading Home now provides the coordinating and implementation structure for eliminating homelessness through community engagement across public and private sectors.
Albuquerque Heading Home is part of the 100,000 Homes Campaign, and there are local housing first initiatives throughout the country that other associations would be a big benefit to. Read more about how AANM is involved (

) and about our gala fundraiser (

). The whet your appetite, an independent study released in September 2013 shows that it is 31% cheaper to house our vulnerable neighbors than for them to remain homeless.
I'm always happy to talk with communities or other affiliates about our commitment to homelessness that is rare, short-lived and non-recurring.
