Last week, I was able to attend a virtual Grub and Gab with members of the Houston Apartment Association. While discussing collections and how communities were working with residents who would need payment plans or extra time to pay, one thing that caught my ear was a discussion on partial payments.
Several community managers stated that they were leaving their payment portals open all month long and allowing partial payments. I’m curious if this is becoming the norm in other parts of the country. Are you allowing partial payments through the pandemic? How is that working for your community? Would you consider allowing them again in the future even after the pandemic is over?
I find that completely fascinating. One of the big drawbacks for accepting partial payments is the inability to evict someone once they have done so. However, with evictions on hold across the country, are there any other drawbacks? Seems like a win/win!
