I recently saw a Progressive Insurance commercial that was listing out discounts somebody can get for car insurance, and what struck me was that they apparently give out a discount for owning a home. I'm guessing that they've looked at the numbers and found a lower number of accidents by those who live in single family homes, but it's annoying regardless.

You think that's bad, Businesss Week had an article telling resident's to ask for huge discounts at renewal time. Came out on Friday, January 23. Thankfully, I have still been able to increase the rents here, by giving away something as simple as a house cleaning, or a free upgrade. That's pretty good considering I'm in Michigan.

This isn't something unique to Progressive. In fact, most carriers are going to consider the applicant's financial and general stability when they are considering underwriting any risk. I can think of a lot of reasons not to choose Progressive, but this isn't necessarily one of them.
