We have gotten requests for additional categories in the discussions forum, or more specifically, subcategories. So within the "Front Lines", we would have subcategories such as "Apartment Marketing" or maybe "Social Media". We only want a small number of subcategories, however. So we have two questions for the forum users:
1) Would you like having subcategories?
2) What subcategories would you like for the "Front Lines"? Right now, we are considering:
- Apartment Marketing
- Resident Retention
- Customer Service
- Apartment Jobs
- Social Media
1.) I think subcategories would be a great idea! It would be helpful for those times when we all need a few quick ideas on specific subjects (i.e. online marketing vs. outreach marketing).
2.) I am definitely biased, but I think new marketing ideas are always needed. My vote goes to "Apartment Marketing".
@Zac - If we have categories, apartment marketing will DEFINITELY be one of them. That's always a hot topic, no matter the situation.
@Leigh - Generally speaking, social media would normally be a part of apartment marketing or resident retention, but given how this site tends to show the leading edge for social media for our industry, you are right that it probably warrants its own sub-category.
I think what we'll probably do is try out the sub-categories here soon as a test. We'll see how it works with the system and how people use them, and then just see where it goes from there.
-Apartment Marketing (actually I would recommend Online Apartment Marketing, since IMHO, print advertising is on the decline and will die or become a niche advertising tactic in about 2-4 years)
-Social Media: Even though I don't think it's a high priority or very effective for our industry, it seems to be a hot topic on the message boards here. I know Mark Juleen is a big advocate, so he'd probably want it as a category..haha
-Apartment Jobs: This would be great as times are tough, and this category would make it easy for job seekers find MFH jobs in a better forum than Linkedin.
Great work Brent managing the forums and listening to customer feedback!
Thanks for the feedback, Adam! And you are right, Mark Juleen is a one-man force when it comes to social media in the apartment industry, so we have to have a place for him!
