There is still big debate on whether social media programs should be run on-site, at corporate, or a mix of both in some way. But Facebook has just made a significant upgrade to
Facebook Places
, which will make those options much more possible for your location-based programs. Rather than just have each on-site team claim their property on Facebook Places, they now have a Parent-child relationship, so that corporate can now act as the parent and have all the properties connected to that one account.
This will allow users to find all individual properties through the "parent" corporate profile. Also, it will make it possible to administer programs, such as deals, across the entire property portfolio from the parent account.
I can't tell you how valuable this is going to be for anyone who is managing multiple Place pages and Deals. The Locations tab will also be a nice way to aggregate a portfolio of properties on a single business page.
Here's my question: Will companies *want* the Locations compiled together? And if so, will more multifamily companies place more of an emphasis on promoting the page of the parent brand? It will be very interesting to see if changes to location-based services will have any impact on how companies market themselves and their properties.
Right now it's only available for certain people. They are rolling this out to everyone over the next few weeks right? Still.. should be very convenient for those with large portfolios.
