As we all become publishers, through social media and through our own marketing collateral, it becomes more important to critically think about every aspect of your content, rather than just throwing it up there. And the most important aspect is the title!
I realized we had amazing evidence of the importance of a title recently. One of the mots popular websites is a site called "
Reddit
" - it is basically a social site to share interesting/funny (but sometimes inappropriate) links, pictures, and thoughts. Each of these things can be upvoted or downvoted, so you can see the relative popularity of a post. But one thing the site deals a lot with is reposts - find a funny picture, you post it. Somebody else finds it, they post it again. But what is interesting is that each person can pick a different title. So by using a website called
Karma Decay
, you can see pictures that have been reposted several times, and you can that some titles get absolutely no traction while others do very, very well -
even for the same picture.
Granted, the audience on Reddit may be quite different than your demographics at your apartment community, but regardless, it will show you how important taking a few extra seconds/minutes to think up a good title will be to your efforts!
