I just answered a call from someone who “wanted to complain” about one of my tenants. They don’t live there and refused to give their name. So guess what - I told them they had no reason to call me. If there was a legitimate reason to complain, you would call the police not the property manager. She had the nerve to say that I should care about what she has to say. Um no - I’m not your mom or your friend and the first rule about complaining is to complain to someone who cares. Why would I care what she has to say? Sorry anonymous millennial crybaby I have better things to do!

Yeah, I hate those calls. "I just wanted to tell you..." no. You just want to gossip. I have no way to verify any of this information and I can't do anything with an anonymous complaint. If you need to report suspicious activity, report it to the police. Or send me a written letter with names, dates, details, and your full name and contact info.

I had a very bad neighbor experience that lasted 10 months. Daily calls and accusations from the downstairs residents. It was relentless! Finally the upstairs was provoked enough and shot and killed the downstairs neighbor on Christmas. So far, no charges, as the cameras captured the event, it appears to be “self-defense”.

I pray it does not come to that. Though, I would not be surprised if it did. When it started she called cps and he was arrested for child abuse and molestation. Now his case is being closed and he is getting the kids back and she doesn’t think he should so it’s been an all out war with them. And he wears a body cam because he is a paranoid type but he has also claimed it turn ugly so I’m preparing for anything.

I once told her resident just because you have an opinion doesn’t mean anybody cares or wants to hear it

That’s right! My favorite is - we all have opinions and your opinion is yours to keep. No one here is going to agree with you or even engage in a conversation about it.

What?? I love people like that. I'll listen to what they say about their neighbor as long as they're also telling me who's dumping trash, which lights are out, and who's not picking up after their pets. They're my eyes and ears and it makes my job so much easier.

Problem is that she’s not a tenant. Just wanted to anonymously complain about one which I have no time for

I would worry that maybe they're wanting to report criminal activity. The worst that can happen is it's actually BS and you just thank them and hang up. But don't get me wrong. I've had my share of drama queens

If a tenant contacts me I listen. But an anonymous nobody, no. After being in this business for 21 years, I can say she was more than likely trying to get her current or ex boyfriend in trouble for something. But I’m not the police and accusations can’t be proven when you’re not even willing to stand behind your words

Unless the conversation started off with “I live around the corner” or something like that I would think it’s an ex too. I sure would listen though just for entertainment! Hah

One of my old residents called to complain that the parking lot lights bothered them and that we should reach out to the other building across the street. They thought if we asked them it would be neighborly and we’ll received coming from us. I was like first of all no, it won’t. And no I will not call because for starters dark parking lot is a huge safety hazard. Bugger off.

Isn't that crazy? One of my residents called and said the trash truck emptying the dumpster at the business across the street wakes her up too early. She wanted me to call the trash company to have the pick up time rescheduled

Seriously! I had someone call to say she was bringing the police to one of our units because her baby daddy had “kidnapped” her kids. That’s between y’all...bring me an officer and a warrant or I can’t confirm or deny you’re even calling the right place.

I’ve had that before. But this person wanted to warn that a resident was allowing a felon to live with them. (Unauthorized occupant). It just made us cautious and shortly after the call the unauthorized occupant got arrested for violating probation. What an idiot. So some tips are helpful.

I had that happen once as well and the info was helpful but when some random person calls for something stupid that has no bearing on my job, I just don't have time for that

Hear say, story telling, garbage is a waste of time. You cannot legally use it for any reason and cannot legally act upon it. Total waste of time and totally agree with you on your response Stacey!
