For years we've tried improving the way resident packages should be handled; however, it still hasn't been perfected.
I remember back in the day (when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore....) I dreaded going to the "Package Closet" in our small leasing office. We had shelves with handwritten black permanent marker for the building numbers; but it never failed, someone placed packages wherever there was an open spot making it a true struggle to quickly retrieve and provide our resident with their package(s). Then there were lockers. So pretty and shiny with software that was to make it easy for the courier to use and deliver packages. Nevertheless, a package would be too large, and the courier jammed it in there resulting in a team member having to assist with dislodging the locker (usually a 7–10-minute process). Then there were times when the locker was empty because the courier accidentally placed the package in a different locker and yep, all lockers had to be opened and then the fun began! Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, where did my package go? Fast forward to 2022 and more than 900 communities are now using Fetch! Fetch is an off-site solution for apartment communities that accept packages and schedule deliveries via an app.
Our property has Fetch and the service is included in the amenity fees. We inform our residents about the services and even help them download the app. What do you do when some of your residents do not sign up for Fetch and packages are literally dumped at the front door of your leasing office?
